Murphy Geospatial are perfectly placed to assist our clients with the digitisation of their assets. Our 3years experience delivering survey data for buildings, roads, railway and utility infrastructure means we understand how to present data in various digitised formats. In recent years we have invested in technology, including MAC, that allows us to scale up the volume of data that we capture without compromising on geospatial accuracy. We have developed workflows to process the data into BIM models and help to assign relevant metadata to add intelligence into the model.

A digital twin is a digital representation of a physical object. This definition can also be extended to include a digital representation of a physical system. It is built by processing geospatial information to create a 3D model of a physical asset such as a building, a utility network or an infrastructure network. Murphy Geospatial can deliver a digital twin of your asset which has been geospatially verified to be a true representation of its physical characteristics. This digital twin can be then used as a framework to support visualisation and analytics to help our clients better understand their assets leading to informed decision making.

Murphy Geospatial have developed efficient processes to support the creation of the digital twin at all scales. For smaller buildings and facilities, we use terrestrial laser scanning to produce millimetre accurate point cloud information. Further to this, the point cloud can be processed into a BIM model. The efficient digitising of larger assets such as large office buildings, public buildings or factories requires the use of mass capture instrumentation such as those supporting mobile mapping solutions. Our Murphy Geospatial Asset Capture (MAC) service can quickly digitise large indoor spaces which is of great benefit to the industrial and property sectors. 

Laser scanning produces large amounts of data. Our years of experience in handling large datasets has given us the ability to process the data required to deliver a comprehensive digital twin. The key is to deliver the data in such a way that it can be handled by our clients. Recognising this, we have developed our own web-accessible data delivery platform, a centralised portal where all relevant geospatial information can be accessed and viewed to support informed decision making. 

We understand that delivering the digital twin is only the start of the journey in digitising a client’s assets. The model also requires metadata inputs to add intelligence to the model so the client can extract valueSystems modelling can only be achieved by linking elements of the model. Naming conventions and establishment of sensible unique identifiers are critically important for this process. This metadata allows our clients to link the model to facilities management platforms, asset management platforms, and building performance analytics. As IoT sensors develop and allow clients to get real-time feedback on building performance, Murphy Geospatial will be there to support our clients with these integrations and their digital journey long after delivery of the initial model. 

As with any of our services our approach is to consult with our clients to determine their exact requirements and the level of detail needed to meet their needs. Through our experience of delivering 20,000+ surveys over 38 years we have developed the Geospatial Maturity Scale. The scale allows our clients determine their current work practices when it comes to digitisation of their assets and use of digital collaboration platforms. We can then work with our clients to transition to a more optimised way of working with digital datand establishing a verified and maintained digital twin of their assets.

Murphy Geospatial Asset Capture (MAC) 

Our MAC indoor mobile mapping service can capture and produce a complete 3D digital twin of your assets. It can also empower facility managers to make fact-based decisions to plan for their sites now and in the future, as well as manage potential risks quickly and effectively.  

Our MAC service is powered by the NavVis Technology and the M6 Trolley. MAC is designed for large-scale projects where data needs to be captured accurately, efficiently and be available to key decision makers as quickly as possible.

Indoor Viewer 

Our Indoorviewer software gives online access to explore and interact with the data and extract maximum value, from planning facilities changes, to mapping defects or organising planned maintenance. Users can quickly populate information directly into the digital twin, making sure that information is always relevant and up-to-date. This can all be done in the field from a mobile device, without the need for powerful CAD workstations.  

The software includes a photorealistic representation of the captured environment, tools for measurement, markup, navigation and infinitely flexible points of interest, allowing for a highly customised experience. For the advanced user, the open API allows for entirely bespoke solutions to be easily integrated. This includes real-time feedback from IoT sensors, or links to existing asset databases, equipment O&Ms, and service drawings. 

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) 

GIS has changed from highly-specialised applications used in specific areas of research, to more common server and desktop applications that are used by businesses of all shapes and sizes. GIS has even impacted at a consumer level through applications, such as Google Earth and OpenStreetMaps. 

As a business application, GIS allows businesses to visualise and ask questions of their data, enabling them to establish spatial data relationships that allow them to understand patterns and trends. Through the integration of hardware, software and data, GIS enables the creation of interactive queries, spatial data analysis, and the presentation, reporting and management of all forms of geographically referenced information.
